Steve lifts the weight of an elephant!

A KIND-HEARTED Stockton Heath man has succeeded in lifting the equivalent weight of an elephant to raise money for charity.

The Student Support Centre office had been challenged to raise at least £600.00 in three weeks for the World Vision Elephant Deterrent Project in Nalitabari, Bangladesh. Every year, wild elephants attack the village and have so far destroyed 30 family homes. The money raised will fund special lights which will deter the elephants from entering the village.

Steve Edwards, Deputy Office Manager at the Centre said: "When we were told about the competition I joked that I could lift an elephant in order to raise some money. I didn't expect everyone to take me seriously but they did! My friends, family members and colleagues have all sponsored me generously and I'm hoping to raise as much money."

The task took place on Friday, August 13th when Steve lifted the equivalent of an elephant (4 tonnes) using 20Kg weights two hundred times in under an hour and to date, over £440 has been raised.
